Lyric's Wizard of Oz star up for a TMA award

The Lyric Theatre is proud to announce that Rachel Tucker has received a nomination in this year's Stage TMA Awards. Rachel is nominated for Best Performance in a Musical for her lead role in the Lyric Theatre's 2007 production of THE WIZARD OF OZ. After the sold out run of the show in Belfast, Rachel rose to national prominence as a finalist in the hit BBC show I'D DO ANYTHING. The TMA Awards, which have been running since 1990, are regarded by many as the highlight of the arts calendar. In the Awards history, which covers all TMA member theatres in the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland has only ever won three times, including the Lyric Theatre's win for Best Supporting Actress in 1997 for Pauline Flanagan in The Desert Lullaby.

The TMA Theatre Awards celebrate the very best in theatre, opera and dance and recognise the achievements of artists and companies based throughout the United Kingdom. The Theatre Awards honour individual creative excellence and collaborative artistic effort in performance and production and applaud the outstanding work seen in regional theatres each year: work which contributes so much to the vibrant cultural life of the UK.

Artistic Director Richard Croxford, who also directed the Lyric production of The Wizard of Oz said "It was an absolute pleasure to work with Rachel! She is a hugely talented actress and extremely intuitive. Her performance as Dorothy was a joy to watch and her singing melted many hearts. I am so delighted she is getting the recognition she deserves with this nomination".
