On its second birthday, the landmark Lyric Theatre can reveal it has welcomed nearly 260,000 visitors through its doors since it was rebuilt in 2011. As it celebrates turning two on 1 May, Northern Ireland's leading producing theatre looks back on a dramatic two years of multiple awards and drama - both on and off-stage.

Hopes for the Lyric Theatre winning architecture's top prize have been dashed after the Sainsbury Laboratory in Cambridge was announced the winner of the Stirling Prize tonight. Belfast's Lyric Theatre was one of just six buildings across the UK to be shortlisted for the prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize.

The Lyric is celebrating a major success story after finally reaching its £18.1 million capital fundraising target. The appeal began in 2003 when the Lyric launched plans to build a new theatre on its riverbank site.

The performing arts in Northern Ireland scaled new heights today as the Lyric reached the highest point in the construction of its new theatre. With the core building structure complete, the theatre has now cemented its place within a new Belfast skyline in its state-of-the-art home on Ridgeway Street.

The Lyric Theatre has to raise £150,000 within the next four weeks in order to secure a £500,000 challenge grant from the Kresge Foundation in Michigan, USA. It will be a nail-biting finish to a long-running capital campaign, launched in 2003, to raise the funds to build a new state-of-the-art producing theatre for the people of Belfast and Northern Ireland. The Lyric is appealing for help from the public and the business community to help get the project over the line by the challenge deadline of 30 June.

Liam Neeson hosted a private fundraising dinner last week in New York in aid of the Lyric Theatre, of which he is Patron. Special guests who turned out to show their support included actors Meryl Streep, Aidan Quinn and Ciarán Hinds.

The Belfast theatre where Oscar-nominated actor Liam Neeson got his big break has received a £1m donation from a businessman.
The Lyric Theatre is delighted to announce that Dr Martin and Carmel Naughton have been awarded a prestigious Prince of Wales Medal for Arts Philanthropy in recognition of their substantial support for the Lyric Theatre's redevelopment campaign. Representatives of the Lyric joined the Naughton family for the presentation ceremony today at Clarence House in London, which was hosted by HRH The Prince of Wales.
