Sir Bruce Robinson becomes Chairman of the Lyric Theatre

Sir Bruce Robinson has been confirmed as the new Chairman of the Lyric Theatre, having been nominated unopposed for the role at the first Board meeting since the retirement of Mark Carruthers earlier this month. Stephen Douds has become Vice Chairman, succeeding Sid McDowell who will remain on the Board.

Sir Bruce said: “Although it is a great personal honour to be asked to lead the Lyric Board, the most important thing was to ensure a smooth and seamless transition following Mark’s retirement. I look forward to playing my part in supporting Jimmy Fay and his team to further strengthen the Lyric’s reputation as an innovative, exciting playhouse that offers work of the highest quality and serves the whole community.

“I would like to thank Sid McDowell for his generous service through the years as Chairman and Vice Chairman, and I am delighted that Sid has agreed to remain on the Board. I believe that continuity and stability are essential at any time, and are particularly important during a period when pressures on funding are so acute”.

Stephen Douds added: “Bruce has made a great contribution since joining the Board three years ago and I look forward to continuing to work with him and the rest of the Board to help the Lyric fulfil our ambitions. Bruce's proven leadership skills combined with wide experience of local and international business make him ideally qualified to lead the Board of the Lyric Theatre”.
