About Us

"I saw my first serious theatre at the Lyric Theatre in the late 1970’s. It is no exaggeration to say it changed my life." Martin Lynch, Playwright.

The Lyric Theatre is Northern Ireland’s only full-time producing theatre.

It seeks to reflect our rich cultural diversity and to speak with a voice that is inspiring, challenging, entertaining and relevant.

The varied programme regularly consists of:

A local voice from playwrights including John Boyd, Anne Devlin, Graham Reid, Martin Lynch, Christina Reid, Jennifer Johnston, Gary Mitchell, Owen McCafferty, Tim Loane and Marie Jones

Irish dramatists including Friel, Yeats, Goldsmith, Sheridan, Shaw, O’Casey, Wilde, Synge and Becket

English dramatists from Shakespeare to Shaffer

The European influence of Chekhov, Ibsen, Strindberg and Brecht

American classics dominated by Arthur Miller and Tennessee Williams

60,000 people come to see Lyric productions every year, including 20,000 young people under the age of 25, many of whom are experiencing live theatre for the first time.

The Lyric is currently fundraising for a theatre on the present site which will benefit future generations of actors and audiences.
